Registry Recon is a powerful computer forensics tool that aggressively searches for Microsoft Windows Registry data and rebuilds both complete and partial Registries which have existed on computer systems over time. What is the Microsoft Windows® Registry?
The Registry is a complex ecosystem, in database form, containing information related to hardware, software, and users on computer systems running Microsoft Windows. Analysis of this information reveals the names of recently accessed files, when applications were last run, who attached removable storage devices, and much more. The Registry is continually referenced during Windows operation so large volumes of Registry data can always be found both on disk and in live memory.
Registry forensics has long involved cobbling together a disparate suite of tools, often resulting in scratching the surface of cases involving intellectual property theft, document forgery, evidence spoliation, malware analysis, and Internet crimes. Users simply add a forensic image or physically mounted hard drive to Registry Recon and enormous volumes of Registry data are found and processed -- whether that Registry data was active, backed up in restore points or volume shadow copies, or even deleted.
