World Leader in DDoS Mitigation
Arbor Networks' 450 customers include the vast majority of the world's service providers and many of the largest enterprise networks in use today. According to a recent report from Infonetics Research titled, DDoS Prevention Appliance Market Outlook, Arbor Networks was cited as top supplier of DDoS prevention solutions overall as well as in the Carrier, Enterprise, Government and Mobile market segments.
Integrated DDoS Detection and Mitigation for Service Providers
The vast majority of the world's leading service providers rely on Arbor's Peakflow® SP platform to proactively fend off malicious threats such as botnets and volumetric and application-layer distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, while strengthening the availability and quality of their services. The Peakflow SP platform includes two main components, Peakflow SP and the Threat Management System (TMS). Peakflow SP combines network-wide anomaly detection and traffic engineering with TMS' carrier-class threat management, which automatically detects and surgically removes only attack traffic, while maintaining legitimate business traffic. With the ability to mitigate only the attack traffic, customer-facing services remain available while providers actively mitigate attacks. The Peakflow SP platform also powers many of the world's leading cloud-based DDoS managed security services.
Dynamic Threat Landscape: DDoS Targeting Businesses of All Sizes
With the rise of hacktivism in recent years, any enterprise operating online can become a target, because of who they are, what they sell or who they partner with. The explosion of inexpensive and readily-accessible attack tools is enabling anyone to carry out DDoS attacks. At the other end of the spectrum, commercial DDoS services are running full-steam, with a variety of service offerings available. Botnets 'for hire' are springing up everywhere, and unskilled attackers are now able to hire botnet services for bargain-basement prices. Just as an enterprise can subscribe to a technology provider or a cloud-based DDoS mitigation service, hacktivists can subscribe to a DDoS service to launch attacks. Not only can potential customers "test drive" DDoS attack services before purchasing, they also can get discounts for multiple purchases. Some services offer persistent attacks for as little as $1000/month. This has profound implications for the threat landscape, risk profile, network architecture and security deployments for any business operating online today.
Availability and Investment Protection for the Enterprise
Application-layer DDoS attacks require on-premise protection because they generally consume little bandwidth and are stealthier in nature when compared to flood-based attacks that are best mitigated in the cloud. However, "low and slow" application-layer attacks can have a similar impact to service as they target specific characteristics of well-known applications such as HTTP, DNS, VoIP or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). Arbor's Pravail™ Availability Protection System (APS) is the first on-premise security product focused on securing the enterprise perimeter from threats against availability -- specifically, protection against application-layer DDoS attacks.
What makes Arbor's approach to DDoS such an important solution for the enterprise is that it not only protects against availability threats such as application-layer DDoS attacks, it provides investment protection to existing security infrastructure. For example, firewalls and IPS are designed for important security problems other than DDoS. They were built to stop unauthorized access to critical resources, enforce corporate security policies and prevent data loss. What's changed is that availability itself is now under assault and it requires a solution designed specifically for today's complex DDoS problem.
