China currently ranks second to the U.S. in terms of online shoppers with 145 million buyers; however, this figure is expected to balloon to 329 million by 2015 as internet penetration rates and wealth continue to grow. At present, eBay's PayPal offers cross-border transactions to Chinese users but it is attempting to secure a domestic payment license. If PayPal is successful in obtaining the license it could open the door to huge expansion and provide a big boost to payment volumes.
Another company which seems to have its eye on Chinese markets is home shopping giant Liberty Interactive Corp. The company recently reported its QVC division has entered into a joint venture with government controlled China National Radio. QVC will have a 49 percent stake in "CNR Home Shopping Co. Ltd."
