Alberta Energy Regulator Operations Continue During Southern Alberta Floods

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 22, 2013) - Due to evacuations in downtown Calgary, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Calgary head office will remain closed until at least Wednesday, June 26.

Incident reporting, response, and monitoring capabilities are unaffected by this outage. The AER continues to carry out field surveillance activities including inspections, compliance monitoring, and responding to landowner concerns. All production systems remain in operation.

The AER recognizes that the southern Alberta floods may impact industry's ability to submit routine data. As a result, the AER will extend deadlines for routine data submission until July 3, 2013. All requirements for mandatory reporting of oil and gas-related incidents as well as requirements for information normally submitted to AER field centres are still in place.

All remaining AER locations are open. Energy and environment-related incidents and emergencies should be reported to the 24-hour response line at 1-800-222-6514. Compliance officers who answer the 24-hour line are trained to assess the situation and will ensure that the appropriate agencies are contacted and emergency responders dispatched if necessary.

General inquiries or regulatory questions should be directed to 1-855-297-8311 or inquiries@aer.ca.

Updates will be provided as further information is available.

The Alberta Energy Regulator ensures the safe, efficient, orderly, and environmentally responsible development of hydrocarbon resources over their entire life cycle. This includes allocating and conserving water resources, managing public lands, and protecting the environment while providing economic benefits for all Albertans.
