AVON, CT--(Marketwire - November 26, 2012) - A breakthrough project using Vacuum Insulated Panels (VIP) has recently been completed at Dow Corning's new Research & Development center in Seneffe, Belgium. This is the first commercial application of several new designs developed by Group 4 and Dow Corning that overcome longstanding VIP installation challenges to deliver on the technology's long promised energy and space savings. Other VIP panel configurations are being specified around the globe for use in commercial construction, with the promise of residential market adoption still to come.
Group 4's research and design team visited building sites, architectural offices and manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Europe to talk with architects, building engineers, project managers and construction crews. These interviews and observations provided impetus for conceptual development attuned to the varied construction methods typical of large commercial construction projects.
The new VIP design establishes a promising foundation from which Dow Corning can offer insulating panels with "R" values far exceeding all other currently available materials and in considerably less space. For the building owner and occupiers these panels mean significantly reduced energy usage, utility costs and an increase in usable interior space.
