ACOTE Grants Seven-Year Accreditation to Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Stanbridge College

The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Stanbridge College Was Granted Full Accreditation for Seven Years by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 4, 2012) - Stanbridge College, a technical college that offers training in Healthcare and Information Technology, was recently granted full accreditation status for its Associate of Occupational Science of Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) degree program by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.

Stanbridge College completed its accreditation team visit in April 2012 with zero findings, seven commendations and two recommendations. The full accreditation status was granted to Stanbridge College for seven years through 2018/2019. Stanbridge College becomes only the fourth college in California to offer an accredited OTA training program and is currently the largest program in the state.

"Stanbridge College is pleased to receive full programmatic accreditation status from the ACOTE," stated Yasith Weerasuriya, CEO and President of Stanbridge College. "We are committed to upholding the highest standards of excellence in our program so that the ultimate recipients of that rigor, the patients, receive world-class service."

According to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and several other healthcare and allied health organizations, there is a current shortage of Occupational Therapy professionals throughout the nation and in California. Stanbridge College hopes to help fill this void with its strong focus on clinical skills, critical thinking and business soft skills.

The OTA program at Stanbridge College trains students in real-world occupational therapy environments with professional faculty and clinical partners. The program provides students with access to three Therapy Skills Labs for occupational therapy and physical therapy and two Nursing Simulation Labs. The Therapy Skills Labs allow students to develop their skills with up-to-date adaptive equipment and mobility devices. OTA students are placed in clinical rotations during their studies where they practice under the direction and supervision of licensed Occupational Therapists at clinical sites in Southern California.
