Yammer Now Available in Dutch, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish
Yammer Extends Global Traction With New Languages and Plans for Offices in Europe and Asia
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - December 8, 2010) - Yammer, Inc. today announced that it is now available in six new languages -- Dutch, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish -- in addition to English. Visitors to Yammer.com can easily choose their language preference from a new selector in the footer of the site.
New languages are a priority for Yammer because of its geographically diverse user base. Yammer already has networks in 136 countries, and more than half its traffic comes from outside of North America. The company recently announced plans to establish operations in Europe and Australia using a portion of the proceeds from its new $25 million financing round.
"Yammer has a huge global opportunity," said David Sacks, founder and CEO, Yammer. "We believe that every company will want its own enterprise social network, no matter its size or industry, and that includes companies in countries that don't speak English. Translating Yammer massively increases our market opportunity."
Yammer plans to add additional languages weekly via its Translations application, which involves Yammer users in the translation process by allowing them to submit translations and vote on existing ones. Hundreds of Yammer users have volunteered to participate. Yammer also supplements their efforts by employing the services of a professional translation firm. Ninety-four languages are currently available for user translation. By leveraging the technology of the Translations application, Yammer can rapidly add new languages to its offering.
Yammer's Translations app was built using Tr8n, an open-source Ruby-on-Rails plug-in originally developed at Geni, Inc. by developer Michael Berkovich.
