Vodafone Portugal Selects Dilithium Gateway to Launch Enhanced Video Telephony Services

PETALUMA, Calif.--(CCNMatthews - Feb 9, 2006) -

Dilithium Networks announced today that Vodafone Portugal has selected Dilithium along with its partner, Nortel, to provide multimedia and enhanced video services. Nortel will integrate Dilithium's DTG 2000, the leading multimedia transcoding gateway, with its MCS 5200 communication platform for a complete multimedia communications solution that provides seamless connectivity across mobile and broadband networks. The system will extend Vodafone's capability of the 3G mobile network to enable seamless real time conversational video telephony calling to personal computers over broadband networks.

The DTG 2000 multimedia gateway incorporates several patent pending technologies including Dilithium Networks' UnicodingTM technology for fast efficient transcoding, resulting in better lip synchronization. Additional key benefits include Video RefreshTM for eliminating video corruption in messaging and streaming platforms, and AnswerFastTM Plus that reduces call setup times to under 1 second. Nortel's MCS 5200 is a carrier-grade, SIP-based media and applications server.

"Portugal is one of the most advanced markets in Europe for mobile penetration and its broadband growth rates now exceed the EU average growth rate," said Lee Ellison, Senior VP of Global Sales and Support, Dilithium Networks. "Dilithium Networks' DTG 2000 will bridge the gap between the 3G mobile networks and broadband networks allowing a much larger installed base of video enabled media rich devices. Both Nortel and Dilithium are pleased to be selected by Vodafone to deliver this innovative solution."
