CAMPBELLFORD, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 28, 2008) - The Campbellford War Memorial, dedicated to members of the community who served their country in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War, will be restored with Government of Canada support.

Rick Norlock, Member of Parliament for Northumberland-Quite West, on behalf of the Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced today a contribution to the Municipality of Trent Hills that will be used to help restore and conserve the Campbellford War Memorial.

Funding of up to $22,255, provided through Veterans Affairs Canada's Cenotaph/Monument Restoration Program, will ensure the renovation of the Campbellford War Memorial's concrete structure, including coating and painting of the concrete surface as well as an extensive cleaning of the entire monument.

"A monument is a physical reminder to honour those who fought for freedom on our behalf," said Minister Thompson. "As we mark the 90th anniversary of the End of the First World War this Remembrance Day, it is a fitting time to restore this memorial, which commemorates Campbellford men and women who served in the First World War and in later wars."

"This contribution will ensure that the Campbellford War Memorial remains a place of remembrance and reflection for future generations," said Mr. Norlock.
