HAMPTON, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - July 7, 2008) - Students from Hampton High School will capture the stories of local servicemen who were killed in the First World War thanks to support from the Government of Canada.

The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced today a contribution to Hampton High School.

Funding of up to $650, provided through Veterans Affairs Canada's Community Engagement Partnership Fund, will support the school's commemorative project in which Modern History students documented the lives of Hampton-area servicemen who died in the First World War. The students used files from Archives Canada and collected photographs, newspaper articles, letters and personal accounts from relatives. The result is a 200-page volume of photographs, documents and text chronicling the lives of these young men.

"The students who took on this incredible task are leaders in remembering Canada's fallen heroes," said Minister Thompson. "Their dedication serves as an example for others who are looking to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by our service men and women."

The Community Engagement Partnership Fund provides funding to non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events. Administered through Veterans Affairs Canada's Canada Remembers program, contributions are made throughout the year and encompass both national and community-based projects.
