The program will open its doors to communities located near any of the participating pharmacies to receive their flu vaccination.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more people die each year from influenza (the flu) and resulting complications than from all vaccine-preventable diseased combined. In fact, influenza and pneumonia combined are the eighth leading cause of death in the U.S. This year, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for the CDC has expanded their recommendations for annual influenza vaccination to include all people aged 6 months and older. The VaxAmerica-Pharmacy Select clinics will have vaccinations available for individuals 4 years and older. Also available for seniors aged 65 years and older will be a new high-dose influenza vaccine from manufacturer sanofipasteur.
Pharmacy Select has begun marketing the VaxAmerica program immediately to its 4,000 member pharmacies, and patients will be able to reserve their flu shot on the VaxAmerica online scheduler.
