VANCOUVER,
BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 6, 2010) - Vancouver artist
Scott Plear has just completed a major commission for Bentall LP, one of North
America's leading real estate advisory and service organizations.
The abstract painting was
installed earlier this month in the lobby of 1075 West Georgia Street in
Vancouver, British Columbia, where it can be viewed by the public.
The
painting, titled Thermal Core, is a stunning work measuring 17 feet by
8 feet. Thermal Core is painted in acrylic and was composed over a
period of 5 months.
"When undertaking a commission like this," said Plear,
"It's important that you get it right. Before I began work on the painting
itself, I discussed in detail with Bentall their needs not only for the work,
but also for the space where it would be hanging. Then I painted several
mock-ups, which Bentall viewed, and I made adjustments. Once we had agreement
on the format, I started to work on the painting itself."
Thermal
Core
is a blend of magentas and purple reds, offset with bands of blue, yellow, and
orange. It lights up the lobby of 1075 West Georgia, which was designed by
architect Arthur Erickson. Prior to Plear's work being installed, the lobby was
home to a work by artist Jack Shadbolt, which has since been purchased by a
private collector.
Another
major commission by Plear, Alberta Aurora, can be seen at Livingston
Place (West Tower) 250 2nd Street SW in Calgary, Alberta. That work
measures 15 feet by 9 feet, and marked the beginning of Plear's involvement
with large-scale works for public places.
Scott
Plear is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and has exhibited his
work in Canada, the United States, and in the United Kingdom. He has operated
Scott Plear Studio for more than 30 years, and is an art instructor at Langara
College in Vancouver, British Columbia.
