The value of this polished parcel, combined with the polished gemstones previously announced (see press release dated January 18, 2007), contribute US$40,066 to the overall valuation of the 30 tonne Aappaluttoq bulk sample. These components represent processing of a total of 361.7 grams of the 58,108 grams of gem grade material recovered from the 2006 Aappaluttoq bulk sample.
The latest material sent for polishing was a "select" parcel of the coarse gem from the reported 1,937 grams per tonne gem grade fraction (see press release January 16, 2007) and is not considered to be statistically representative of the gem class recovered from the 2006 Aappaluttoq bulk sample. A total of 400 pieces of rough weighing 221.7 grams (1,108.3 carats) were transmitted for polishing in Sri Lanka. A total of 402 polished rubies and pink sapphires, weighing 310.31 carats including both faceted and cabochon cut stones, were returned.
"While not representative of the gem class of the 2006 Aappaluttoq bulk sample, True North's management considers these results very encouraging," said Nicholas Houghton, A.G. (C.I.G.), Director of True North Gems. "It is important to note that, while the average per carat price is lower than those from previous valuations, the overall value of the parcel is enhanced by the higher yields typical of cabochons."
The polishing of the Aappaluttoq ruby and pink sapphire material is ongoing at facilities in Sri Lanka, Thailand, China and Canada. The results from the valuations of additional parcels of polished gemstones will be announced as they become available.
The independent valuation of the ruby and pink sapphire from Aappaluttoq was carried out by Mr. John Mattinson, Geologist, Gemmologist, G.G. (GIA).
The planning and execution of the ruby exploration and quality control programs at the 2007 Greenland ruby project are under the supervision of Greg Davison, P.Geo., True North Gems' Vice President Exploration. Mr. Davison is a qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101.
