ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - March 16, 2009) -

NEWS FACTS

Emergency department experts from Blue Jay Consulting will be speaking at the New Jersey ENA Emergency Care Conference March 18-20, 2009 at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City. Topics include leadership, harnessing energy to work within the volcano of emergency nursing, triage challenges with children, emotional intelligence, and the Baby Boomers' impact on health care.

Evaluating and enhancing one's leadership skill set is the topic James Hoelz RN, MS, MBA, and Managing Partner at Blue Jay Consulting will be discussing during his session. Participants will focus on maximizing their skills to enhance their personal leadership style.

Using a volcano as a metaphor, Nancy Bonalumi RN, MS, CEN, and Senior Consultant will assist participants to identify 'volcanic' forces impacting emergency nursing. These forces include collaborative practice, critical decision making, and the physical working environment. Emergency nurses can harness the energy within the volcano of emergency nursing practice to unleash the leader within themselves and transform the landscape of the practice.

Joanne Lazarus MSN, CEN, Vice President Operations, Emergency Services at Blue Jay Consulting, and a member of the National ENA Board of Directors, looks at President Abraham Lincoln's leadership style. Many admire his inner vision and say he truly knew how to inspire people to do their best. Lazurus challenges participants to apply Lincoln's ability to learn from his mistakes and use his diverse leadership abilities in today's complex emergency care environment.

With 78 million Baby Boomers reaching retirement age, Deb Delaney RN, MS, CEN, and Consultant at Blue Jay Consulting questions what the impact will be on healthcare. She will evaluate the significance of this generation; including its fascination with youth, and the impending result on the American healthcare system. An additional discussion will include the impact on the nursing shortage when these nurses retire (en masse).

Jeanne J. Venella RN, MS, CEN, and Consultant at Blue Jay Consulting presents triage challenges with children. Many times there are disastrous hidden symptoms waiting to happen. Here Venella shares her vast expertise in pediatric emergency nursing explaining the triad of triaging with children including appearance, vital signs and the caretaker's history, to easily identify the child in most need of immediate treatment. Venella will review both common and potentially serious triage complaints for children with emphasis on the unique challenges in assessing children and their level of growth and development.

Denise King RN, MSN, CEN, and Senior Consultant at Blue Jay Consulting as well as 2008 President of the National Emergency Nurses Association will discuss emotional intelligence. Emotional Intelligence is believed to be the most crucial determinant of success in the workplace. A basic overview of emotional intelligence will be presented, as well as the impact it has on the effectiveness as an individual and as a leader.
