Media Advisory: A. Alan Borovoy to Receive The Law Foundation of Ontario's Guthrie Award
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 8, 2009) - On Thursday, January 15th, The Law Foundation of Ontario (LFO) will present A. Alan Borovoy, General Counsel of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA), with the Guthrie Award Medal.
The Guthrie Award was created in 1996 in honour of former LFO Trustee and Chair, H. Donald Guthrie. The award is bestowed upon individuals or organizations that demonstrate outstanding public service, make significant contributions to access to justice, and symbolize excellence in the legal profession.
Throughout Mr. Borovoy's illustrious 40-year career with CCLA, he has been an advocate for the rights and freedoms of people who might otherwise be denied them and has devoted extraordinary amounts of time and energy to enabling ordinary citizens to engage with justice issues.
Past recipients of the Guthrie Award include: Peter Oliver, Editor-in Chief, Osgoode Society for Canadian Legal History; Parkdale Community Legal Services; Balfour Halevy, Law Librarian Emeritus and Professor Emeritus (Osgoode Hall Law School of York University); James C. Baillie, Q.C., Torys; former Chief Justice the Hon. R. Roy McMurtry; and Martin Teplitsky, Q.C., L.S.M., Teplitsky, Colson.

The LFO makes grants to support community participation in the justice system, promote excellence in the legal profession and enhance access to justice.
