AURORA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 29, 2010) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Lois Brown, Member of Parliament (Newmarket–Aurora) today announced funding for Horse-Canada magazine.

Horse-Canada magazine celebrates the joy of owning and caring for horses by contributing to the improvement of horse care and horse management in Canada. The magazine is published five times a year and is distributed across the country. The funds will contribute to the creation of Horse-Canada magazine's content through Canadian writing, designing, editing, and photography services.

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $24,920 through the Support for Editorial Content (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/fcm-cmf/acr-sec/index-eng.cfm) component of the Canada Magazine Fund (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/fcm-cmf/index-eng.cfm). In February 2009, the Government announced that it would maintain its support for Canadian magazines through the creation of the Canada Periodical Fund (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pc-ch/infoCNtr/cdm-mc/index-eng.cfm?action=doc&DocIDCd=CJM082334), a modern, streamlined program that will replace the Canada Magazine Fund and the Publications Assistance Program (http://www.canadianheritage.gc.ca/pgm/pap/index-eng.cfm). This new fund, which recently launched its Aid to Publishers(http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/fcp-cpf/aae-atp/index-eng.cfm) component, will continue to invest in periodicals like this one to increase the overall health of the Canadian magazine and non-daily newspaper industries.
