The Artivist Film Festival, Which Recognizes Socially Conscious Filmmakers, Activists, Celebrities and Charitable Organizations, Is Set to Honor Three Great Celebrity Humanitarians at the Artivist Film Festival 2007
LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - November 9, 2007) - Ted Danson, Alyssa Milano and Claes Nobel
will be honored at the Artivist Film Festival and Artivist Awards on
November 11th, 2007 in Hollywood, California.
The 4th Annual Artivist Film Festival hosted by actress Persia White
("Girlfriends"), pays tribute to filmmakers from around the world
showcasing some 60 documentary films from 25 countries, recognizing their
work in Social Consciousness, Human Rights, Environmental Preservation,
Animal Welfare and Child Advocacy.
The Artivist Film Festival has selected three celebrated individuals whose
contributions to various issues have brought about change and awareness to
the global community.
Selected by an esteemed panel and based on outstanding contributions: Ted
Danson for his work with American Oceans Campaign (AOC) creating awareness
for life-threatening eco-hazards to our oceans and through his call for
more government action. Alyssa Milano for her extensive work as a relief
ambassador with UNICEF and her plight to raise public awareness for
neglected tropical diseases faced by over one billion people world-wide.
Finally, Claes Nobel, senior member of the Nobel family for his
championship of causes related to environmental stewardship, earth ethics
and youth outreach. Additionally, honorees will include various cultural
creatives, organizations and documentarians who define the Artivist
mission.
The celebrity honorees will be honored on November 11th at the awards gala
that will be held on the last night of the festival. Previous Artivist
Awards have gone to luminaries such as Daryl Hannah, Matthew McConaughey,
Joaquin Phoenix, Mira Sorvino, Ed Begley, Jr., James Cromwell, Tippi Hedren
and Mike Farrell.
The film festival, which will begin on November 8th, 2007, will once again
take place at the famed Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Over the course of
the 4 day event, filmmakers from around the world will compete in various
categories of film or video including narrative, documentary and short
film. The festival's mission is to strengthen the voice of international
activist artists, referring to them as "Artivists," while raising public
awareness for social and global causes.
Artivist Film Festival 2007 follows three highly successful years of
previous festivals, having set the stage for great audience attendance and
media coverage. The event producers are expecting packed seats for most if
not all of the highly anticipated 60 films. Highlights from previous years
included screenings of such notable films as "Fast Food Nation," "Super
Size Me," "The Corporation" and "Born into Brothels."
Following in this tradition of passionately engaged cinema, Artivist is
screening another slate of landmark films at this year's festival. On
Friday, November 9th, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Artivist is proud to present "Out
of Balance" in the Rigler Theater. This provocative film is a head-on look
at how the priorities and politics of the ExxonMobil oil company have
pushed the earth's ecology out of balance. Also on Friday, November 9th
2007, "American Drug War: The Last White Hope" screens in the Rigler
Theater at 9:15 p.m. The War on Drugs has become the longest and most
costly war in American history, and "American Drug War" asks: how much more
can the country endure? On Saturday, November 10th, a re-mastered version
of the internet hit "Zeitgeist" will have its global cinematic premiere at
9:15 p.m. in the Rigler Theater. With more than a million views on-line,
"Zeitgeist" is a sensation and a provocation, challenging its audience to
look at the world in a new and critical way.
Artivist is committed to community partnership, communication, and finding
a common ground with artists, organizations, and companies in order to
create long-term positive change.
This year, Artivist's "Official Community Partner" is Petrobras, one of the
largest distributors of Ethanol Fuel in the world,
(www.petrobras-usa.com). A Brazilian energy company, Petrobras is an
active corporate citizen deeply concerned with environmental preservation
and the discovery of alternative energy sources. Brazil is the world's
second largest producer of ethanol, and Petrobras is at the forefront of
that nation's effort to meet the increasing global demand for sustainable
biofuels. Implementing this vision, Petrobras recently took part in the
launching of the urban bus driven exclusively by ethanol in the city of São
Paulo. Petrobras also invests in the welfare of Brazil's ethanol producers,
supporting agricultural cooperatives in which planting for the production
of fuel is rotated with the harvesting of food. This biodiversity
provides jobs for farmers, and guarantees that even in a changing world
there will be a viable future for Brazil's rural communities.
Petrobras' mission is not only to decrease levels of pollution, but also to
protect and enhance threatened ecosystems around the world. Each year
Petrobras invests 300 million dollars in causes that benefit the global
community. The program Petrobras Environmental aims to protect and recover
water bodies and sources, as well as educate people about the rational use
of water resources. For decades Petrobras has also partnered with
conservation organizations to defend the ecological heritage of the
Amazonian Rain Forest, and with animal rights advocates to safeguard
threatened species such as the sea turtle, the spinner dolphin, the
manatee, the right whale and the humpback whale. For this commitment,
Petrobras has been listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index of "green"
companies and is acclaimed for being the only energy company aligned with
the ten principles of the Global Compact of the United Nations.
The Artivist Film Festival is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to
creating a platform for socially conscious "Artivists" to share their
inspirational and informative films with the world.
