"Stop Spam Today" Campaign Gives Free Anti-Spam Software and Resources to Nonprofits and Libraries for Sixth Year in a Row
TechSoup Global, Mailshell, and Red Earth Software Join Forces to Help Nonprofits Stay Secure
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - December 3, 2008) - As the spam problem evolves from being an annoyance to becoming a significant threat to computers, privacy, and security, TechSoup Global and Mailshell Inc. today announced that they are continuing their annual "Stop Spam Today" campaign, with the addition of Red Earth Software this year. Stop Spam Today is a nationwide effort to help nonprofits, charitable organizations, and public libraries fight spam by providing donated software and free resources.
To receive free Mailshell anti-spam software as part of this campaign, eligible organizations must be registered with TechSoup Global. Once registered, they can visit TechSoup (www.techsoup.org/stock/spam/) on Wednesday, December 10 until 5 p.m. Pacific time/8 p.m. Eastern time to request the software generously donated by Mailshell. Qualifying nonprofits and public libraries can request as many free licenses of Mailshell as they need to protect their computers. In addition, TechSoup and Mailshell are holding a free webinar on December 9 to educate nonprofits on protecting themselves from spam.
The December 10 event culminates a two-week campaign to provide the resources and education nonprofits need to protect themselves from online security threats. One new security tool highlighted as part of the campaign is Red Earth's Policy Patrol software, recently made available to eligible nonprofits and public libraries through TechSoup, thanks to a generous donation from Red Earth Software. Policy Patrol is an enterprise-level email filtering solution that helps an organization block spam and regulate their email usage. This donation program is part of Red Earth Software's effort to "give back" to the community by helping nonprofits increase productivity, protect against security threats, and minimize legal liability. Policy Patrol is available to eligible organizations through TechSoup Global for an administrative fee of $60.
"Although spam has been around for 30 years now and people have grown used to the irritating messages, they may not realize how it threatens the security and productivity of their organizations," said Roger Abraham, Vice President, TechSoup Global Products. "Through their donation programs, Mailshell and Red Earth Software have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to helping protect nonprofits from spam and its associated dangers such as spyware, phishing, and viruses."
Integral parts of the Stop Spam Today campaign are the free articles, discussions, and tools featured on the TechSoup.org website designed to educate nonprofits on how to combat spam. Nonprofits can visit www.techsoup.org/stock/spam/ to view TechSoup's new Security Corner, share strategies for fighting spam in their security forum, access TechSoup's spam prevention toolkit, and view articles about spam-related topics.
