Symantec Announces Winner of "Blast Off With Norton" Suborbital Flight to Space
Jorge Leon From Chile Could Become First Chilean in Space
CUPERTINO, CA--(Marketwire - April 8, 2009) - Symantec Corp. (
Commercial suborbital flights to space have yet to be launched, with Space Adventures being one of the first companies expected to offer such flights to the public. In addition to being one of the first to participate in a commercial space travel flight, León could be the first Chilean in space as no Chilean has participated in a space flight at this time. Prior to his suborbital space flight experience, León will participate in four days of extensive training and flight preparation.
Symantec launched the "Blast Off With Norton" sweepstakes in winter 2008 as part of the Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus 2009 product launches. Completely re-engineered for speed, the Norton 2009 products install in under one minute and are the industry's fastest and lightest security solutions.
The "Blast Off With Norton" sweepstakes was a global contest where 30 people were selected to win a seat on a Norton chartered ZERO-G flight in Florida on Feb. 21, 2009. Immediately after the ZERO-G flight, one lucky contestant was picked to win the suborbital flight to space.
"The ZERO-G flight experience in and of itself was amazing and a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Jorge Leon. "Going to space is just even more amazing! When I heard my name called as the Blast Off With Norton suborbital space flight winner, I couldn't believe my luck!"
"Symantec has delivered speed and weightlessness with our 2009 Norton products," said Janice Chaffin, president, Consumer Business Unit, Symantec. "Providing the opportunity to participate in a zero gravity flight and a suborbital flight to space is the perfect way to generate excitement for Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus, allowing customers to experience that speed and weightlessness on their PCs and in real life. Congratulations, Jorge!"
