Swing Like a Pro Golf Swing Analyzer iPhone App Now Available

Golf Training Tool Uses Accelerometer Technology to Compare Golfer's Swing With a Pro's

SCOTTS VALLEY, CA--(Marketwire - November 1, 2010) -  Swing Like a Pro, a new iPhone application for golfers, is taking golf swing analysis to a new level. Utilizing the iPhone's built-in accelerometer with advanced motion analysis technology, Swing Like a Pro enables users to simulate a golf swing using the iPhone, and immediately compare their swing to the reference swing of a golf professional. With Swing Like a Pro, users can view and analyze their swing speed, acceleration, tempo, back swing and follow-through completion, make adjustments to their swing, and improve their game in real time.

"Swing Like a Pro is an excellent training tool for golfers of all ages and abilities," said Ken Woods, Head Golf Professional at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California. "The app is very user friendly, and provides feedback on the most important parts of the swing, including plane and tempo. I'd recommend Swing Like a Pro to any golfer interested in receiving professional analysis that can immediately be incorporated into their swing."

Designed by Golfcepts, LLC, Swing Like a Pro is available now in the iTunes Store for $9.99, and is compatible with the iPhone 2G, 3G, and 4G, and the iPod Touch. Swing Like a Pro was developed by scientists and engineers with extensive experience in physics and aeronautical engineering, and integrates proprietary software based on best-in-class motion simulation and analysis. The developers hold numerous patents and copyrights, including advanced motion systems for flight simulation.

The primary feature of Swing Like a Pro is the recording and analysis of hand position throughout the swing. Typically, hand position is almost impossible to accurately monitor -- either by video or by an actual pro in the field -- because the swing occurs so rapidly.

Utilizing the iPhone's accelerometer, Swing Like a Pro collects 100 data points per second on hand speed and position through the swing. This data is then used to determine the trajectory of the swing, which is displayed on screen and compared with the reference swing of a golf pro. By analyzing and adjusting swing trajectory, every golfer can dramatically improve their ball flight path and distance.

Swing Like a Pro breaks down each swing into six elements:

  • Back swing velocity
  • Back swing extension
  • Down swing acceleration
  • Follow-through acceleration
  • Hand position
  • Follow-through extension

Each element is scored based on comparison with the pro's reference swing. By evaluating the elements of the swing, users can focus on areas that need improvement. As the swing improves, the scores improve.

Swing Like a Pro also allows a golfer to adjust the pro's swing time to match the user's swing time. This is a valuable tool for the golfer whose swing speed does not match that of the pro. The ability to adjust the pro's swing time enables the golfer to see what their swing should look like if the pro was taking the same amount of time to execute it.

Swing Like a Pro is bundled with short videos that cover the golf swing and putting basics. These training tips augment the swing analysis to further help golfers adjust and improve their swings.
