SquareTrade Study Finds iPhone More Dependable Than BlackBerry and Treo
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - November 10, 2008) - According to a study released by
SquareTrade, an independent warranty provider for consumer electronics, the
Apple iPhone is less than half as likely to fail as phones from Apple's two
biggest competitors -- BlackBerry and Palm.
The study, based on data from over 15,000 phones, finds that only 5.6% of
iPhone users reported a device malfunction in the first year of ownership,
compared with 11.9% of BlackBerry owners and a staggering 16.2% of Treo
owners. The trend is projected to continue through the second year of
ownership, with iPhone maintaining its status as the most reliable of the
three.
"Not only has the iPhone played a huge part in a wave of innovation in the
cell phone industry," says Devin Thomas, Analytics Manager at SquareTrade,
"but it also seems to be setting the bar pretty high with regard to device
reliability."
SquareTrade's study results also reveal that the most frequently reported
device problem for the iPhone is malfunction of the touch screen,
accounting for nearly one-third of all iPhone failures.
