Sharing Resources Expands Access To Government
Publications
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 11, 2005) - Canadians now have
easier access to popular federal and provincial publications, as a
result of a landmark shared services agreement between the Governments
of Canada and Ontario. This agreement has led to increased visibility
and accessibility for both levels of government within the first few
months, with more than 100 different federal publications already sold
through Ontario provincial outlets.
"I am pleased to announce that we are working with our Ontario
colleagues to better serve our citizens," said the Honourable Scott
Brison, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada. "This
is a wonderful example of a successful and cost-effective
federal-provincial partnership. It has the potential to serve as a model
across the country."
Under the terms of the agreement, selected Ontario government titles are
now being accessed through the Government of Canada's publication Web
site, http://publications.gc.ca/, and call centre (1 800 635-7943) while
popular federal government publications are now also available at the
province's Web site,
http://www.gov.on.ca/MBS/english/publications/index.html, call centre
(1 800 668-9938), and two retail outlets in Toronto and Ottawa.
"We are proud to offer our customers a handy one-stop service," said
Ontario Consumer and Business Services Minister Jim Watson. "Our
agreement with Publishing and Depository Services is an excellent
example of the way the federal and provincial governments are working
together to improve services for Canadians."
