Latest Version Adds PaaS Functions, Revolutionary UI Control and iPhone Application Builder
Servoy
THOUSAND OAKS, CA--(Marketwire - December 2, 2008) - Servoy, an award-winning platform provider for fast, flexible, and sexy SaaS solutions, today introduced Servoy 4.1 -- featuring a single code base development and deployment for desktop AND Web applications. Servoy 4.1 is an update to the highly acclaimed Servoy 4.0, an Eclipse plug-in, enabling Servoy developers to produce even better, more powerful enterprise-level applications using a standards-based IDE (Integrated Development Environment), including building iPhone applications.
"Servoy 4.1 is all about productivity and connectivity," said Bob Cusick, President, Servoy USA. "Servoy's professional development and deployment environment enables ISVs and companies to build fast, flexible, sexy SaaS business applications that can be deployed to the desktop, browser and over the Internet -- with a single code base."
Today over 100,000 companies and more than 20,000 developers are working with the Servoy product suite. Companies like Symantec, Stanford University, Wells Fargo, Verizon and UCLA hospital rely on Servoy for managing data and presenting it to their customers and employees through rich applications over the LAN, WAN and Internet connections. They have successfully used Servoy to transition their products to SaaS -- on time and on budget.

"If a business application is for a specific type of user using only one type of device in areas where networks aren't available, it isn't an Anywhere web application -- and therefore it should be a native mobile implementation. Even in this case, some businesses may have their cake and eat it too. Servoy's 4GL application development environment can support both web-based and native mobile clients from a single code base." "For those tired of maintaining separate code bases for Web and desktop applications, Servoy offers a way to consolidate those code bases and cut development time in half." Source: eWEEK, July 1, 2008

"Servoy has lined up an impressive list of customers, from Motorola to Sony to UCLA. Its products have been used to create everything from CRM applications to managing a medical practice. Servoy, based in Amersfoort, outside Amsterdam, has a lot going for it. It has good technology, good positioning, and hard-working managers." Source: Red Herring, Oct. 1, 2008

The ability to create (and maintain) a single code base for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Unix desktops, as well as a variety of browsers, could save software geeks oodles of time and money. Servoy claims its customers can develop Web apps many times faster than by using Microsoft's .Net, and for a fraction of the cost. Source: InfoWorld, Aug. 1, 2008
"We are pleased the top influencers in our industry not only recognize Servoy in the SaaS sector, but also endorse our SaaS platform development tool as one of the best in the industry," said Jan Aleman, CEO, Servoy. "It is a leading indicator for Servoy, and reaffirms our leadership in SaaS category, strengthens our development and go-to market efforts, and ensures that we are poised to continue our leadership position and growth."
Servoy 4.1 New Features
In Servoy 4.1, Servoy extends its functionality to offer specific features critical for SaaS providers:
-- Increased Flexibility
One of the key new features is the ability to create any
object at runtime, allowing SaaS providers to generate user
interfaces that are specific for a user or a group of users.
This information can also be stored as meta data, offering
the user continual access to customized screens in the future.
These new features enable users to:
- Create reports on the fly
- Adjust user interfaces at runtime
- Add or remove fields to or from existing screens
- Save changed and new user interfaces in user preferences
This gives SaaS providers unprecedented control over the user
interface elements -- while at the same time maintaining all
the other great features of Servoy -- automatic AJAX control,
automatic data binding to database fields and automatic data
broadcasting.
-- PaaS (Platform as a Service) for ISVs
Servoy now offers ISVs the ability to deliver a platform to
their customers -- similar to the functionality that
Salesforce.com provides with its Force.com platform offering --
allowing end-users and third parties to enhance or create new
applications. A key advantage with Servoy's offering is that
there is no platform or hosting lock in, and because Servoy does
not sell software products like Salesforce.com, Servoy does not
compete with ISVs using the Servoy platform.
Other new features include:
- Ability to create forms on dynamic datasets (as opposed to
table-driven datasets)
- Dynamic datasets offer the same capabilities as normal
tables: sorting, searching, calculations, etc.
- Faster startup time of Servoy Smart and Web Client
- Enhanced tunneling support with support for Microsoft Proxy
servers
-- iPhone Builder
To demonstrate the power of this new feature set, Servoy ships
an iPhone builder available at http://www.servoy.com/iphone. This
application allows end-users to create custom applications on the
iPhone without programming language knowledge and share them
throughout the enterprise. The application runs on any SQL database
(internal, hosted over the Internet or on a local machine), and
each form created in the application designer can support disparate
databases/tables.
Pricing & Availability
Servoy 4.1 is available immediately as a free upgrade to all Servoy customers with an active subscription.
About Servoy
Servoy BV, a Deloitte Fast 50 Technology company, is an international firm that creates a powerful hybrid (SaaS and on premises) development and deployment platform used by independent software vendors (ISVs), businesses and consultants in over 50 countries.
Servoy is a fast, flexible, platform-neutral platform that helps organizations build and deploy database applications much more quickly and with much less code than traditional development environments. As a hybrid platform, applications can be deployed both as a SaaS application as well as a classic on-premises application from the same code base -- without writing a single additional line of code. Additionally, Servoy is one of the only platforms that allows deployment to both a native client and/or to a browser client (pure HTML & CSS) from the same code base simultaneously.
Features of Servoy include an Eclipse-based IDE, automatic AJAX, HTTP tunneling and secure-by-default security features. With a single code base, ISVs can deploy to the Web or on premises, Smart Client and/or browser on any platform that supports Java -- as well as to any SQL database. It is the logical choice for all ISVs.
