Scouts Canada Announces New Chief Commissioner

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 21, 2005) - On behalf of Her Excellency the Honorable Michaëlle Jean, C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., Governor General of Canada and Chief Scout of Canada, Scouts Canada's Board of Governors is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Glenn Armstrong as Chief Commissioner and Chair of the Board of Governors.
Mr. Armstrong has been involved with Scouting since he was a Cub in Brandon, Manitoba. He has served at the group committee, district, service area, provincial and national levels in a variety of program and administrative positions including Provincial President of Manitoba Council.
As an Executive of the Public Service of Canada, Glenn brings extensive managerial experience to the job. He currently holds the position of Regional Director of Informatics and Telecommunications Services for the Public Service of Canada. He co-chaired the Federal Government Sector of the Winnipeg United Way Campaign in 1997 and is serving as co-chair for 2005.
Glenn has been awarded the Scouts Canada Medal of Merit, and the Charles A. Barbour Award of Merit from the Manitoba Parks and Recreation Association. In addition, he received the Canada 125 Commemorative Medal (1992) and The Queen's Jubilee Commemorative Medal (2002) for his service to Canada.
Mr. Armstrong calls his new appointment "an incredible honour. We are a volunteer-led organization, solidly backed by professional staff; an organization rich in history, with a tremendous program we can deliver to Canadian youth. We will do our best to carry on the Spirit of the Scout Law as we enter the second century of Scouting in Canada."
