SCOUTS CANADA FOUNDATION HONOURS SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Seventeen deserving Scouting youth across Canada will soon receive $1000 to support their studies.

Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 15, 2007) - The Scouts Canada Foundation today announced it will award its annual scholarships to outstanding students involved in Canadian Scouting. Criteria for selection included academic achievement, demonstrated Scouting history, involvement and achievement, and community service. Applicants also submitted a 200-word essay on the true meaning of Scouting. The Foundation Scholarship Committee made the selections from over 75 applications nationwide.
The Reginald K. Groome Scholarship has been awarded annually for ten years to support Scouts Canada youth members entering or continuing full time studies at a Canadian university or college. This demonstrates the self-fulfillment that has been at the heart of Scouting's Mission for over 100 years.
In 2007, the centenary of Scouting worldwide, Scouts Canada President and Executive Director John Rietveld couldn't be more proud of the scholarship recipients. "These young men and women superbly represent the value of the Scouting experience", he said. "The 2007 Scholarship recipients are very caring individuals who lead others by their example within the Scout Movement, and provide service to the community beyond their Scouting involvement. We are proud to support their ongoing education and wish them all the best."
Funding for the Scouts Canada Foundation Scholarships is derived from the Fellowship Program. The scholarships, totaling $17,000, are presented in memory of Reginald K. Groome who, in addition to many other Scouting roles, served as Chairman of the Boy Scouts of Canada Trust in the late 1990s.
The Scouts Canada Foundation was established to raise, invest and administer funds to support special projects not within the field of normal day-to-day Scouting operations. Corporations and individuals may make either general bequests to the Foundation, or donations for specific projects.
