The award is a $1,500 scholarship that was established to help deserving undergraduates further their college educations and reach their goals.

Heitz, who has a 3.9 cumulative G.P.A., is majoring in English and is pursuing her teaching credentials. She is preparing to student-teach in the spring. Heitz's winning essay was selected out of a total of over 70 submissions submitted for the 2009 contest.

The Proof-Reading, Inc. Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student attending an accredited four-year U.S. college or university who maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. It is based on submission of a minimum 1500-word essay on a subject selected by Proof-Reading, Inc. Essays are judged on grammar, content and clarity.
