Price Increases Give Significant Boost to Dow Chemical's Quarterly Earnings, an Industrial Info News Alert
SUGAR LAND, TX--(Marketwire - October 24, 2008) - Researched by Industrial Info Resources
(Sugar Land, Texas) -- The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE:DOW) (Midland,
Michigan) released its earnings for the third quarter of fiscal year 2008
on October 23. In the face of two hurricanes, rising energy and
transportation costs, and reduced product demand, Dow still managed to
raise its net income 6% from 3Q07, despite a 9% decrease in sales volume.
Sales volumes were down in four of Dow's six operating segments, but price
increases helped to increase income from sales. Dow estimated that
hurricanes Ike and Gustav caused a loss of $127 million for the quarter.
