VANCOUVER,
BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 26, 2009) - Powertech Uranium Corp. ("Powertech" or the "Company")
(TSX:PWE)(FRANKFURT:P8A) is pleased to announce that it has
submitted the required Plan of Operation to the U.S. Department of Interior's
Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for its Dewey-Burdock uranium in situ project.
The project, which is located in Fall River and Custer Counties, South Dakota
(SD), consists of 10,580 surface and
mineral acres controlled by the Company through active mining leases, purchases
and unpatented claims. The BLM manages 240 acres within the project area, of
which only about 15 acres are expected to be disturbed during the life of the
project. Powertech controls the mineral rights on these lands through
unpatented Federal Lode Claims and secures access under the terms of the 1872
Mining Law.
The BLM is required to review the project's impacts on
the federal surface and assure that there is no "unnecessary or undue
degradation of public lands" under 43 Code of Federal Regulations Part 3809.
BLM will coordinate its review with the other two federal agencies (EPA and
NRC) that are actively reviewing applications previously submitted by the
Company, as well as the SD Department of Environment and Natural Resources
(DENR). The BLM review is expected to occur concurrently with the reviews of
the other agencies.
Richard Clement, President and CEO, said, "I am
pleased to report yet another milestone in the development of the Dewey-Burdock
Project. This application to the Bureau of Land Management completes our
submittals to the federal agencies involved with the Dewey-Burdock Project. We
look forward to working with the BLM as it conducts its review. Also, we are
continuing to work closely with the DENR as we proceed with filing the
remaining applications for the project."
