PRSA-NY Celebrates 23rd Annual Big Apple Awards

Time Warner Cable Wins "Best of Best" for "Let's Connect: Introducing Time Warner Cable's Mission & Values"; Prestigious John W. Hill Award Presented to James E. Lukaszewski Chairman and President, The Lukaszewski Group Inc.

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - May 28, 2010) -  Public relations and communications professionals gathered last night to celebrate the 23rd Annual Big Apple Awards. Special guest hosts Michelle Charlesworth and Phil Lipof of WABC-TV assisted in awarding 32 Big Apple Awards and 20 Honorable Mentions. Held annually, the awards ceremony presented by the New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-NY, www.prsany.org) recognizes excellence in public relations. The dinner was held at the Hudson Theatre, Millennium Broadway Hotel.

"The Big Apple Awards recognize the exceptional work of New York area public relations professionals. The winning organizations demonstrated a gold standard in public relations, a clear understanding of campaign objectives and flawless execution that delivered value and tangible results for their clients," said PRSA-NY President-elect, and Big Apple Awards Chair, Sandra Fathi.

Time Warner Cable accepted the prestigious "Best of the Best" award for the "Let's Connect: Introducing Time Warner Cable's Mission & Values" campaign. The award for Best Use of Research, Measurement, and Evaluation was presented to North Shore-LIJ Health System in the Internal Communications: Government, Associations & Non-Profit Organizations category for its campaign titled "'it's about choices' Open Enrollment Campaign."

At the event, three individuals were honored with special awards for their contributions, leadership and accomplishments:

  • The John W. Hill award was presented to James E. Lukaszewski, ABC, APR, Fellow PRSA, The Lukaszewski Group Inc. for his demonstration of leadership in the practice of public relations and the highest standards of ethical conduct.
  • The Philip Dorf Award was presented to Deborah Radman, APR, Fellow PRSA, for outstanding accomplishments in mentoring PR practitioners and students.
  • The President's Award was presented to Grace T. Leong, APR, Hunter Public Relations, for outstanding service and contributions to PRSA-NY.

The 2010 Big Apple Awards competition was open to all public relations professionals in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut for programs created in 2009 and implemented anywhere in the United States. To qualify, professionals in the Tri-State Area had to perform most or all of the actual work on the programs. The panel of judges was comprised of experienced, senior level public relations practitioners, representing a broad range of disciplines. A complete list of winners follows.
