President's Party Raises $210,000 for Roger's House
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 18, 2008) - The Sens Foundation announced today that $210,000 was raised at the President's Party, presented by Scotiabank, which was held on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Casino du Lac-Leamy.
Ottawa Senators players Mike Fisher, Chris Phillips, Martin Gerber, Chris Neil, Antoine Vermette, Luke Richardson, Jason Spezza, and Brendan Bell joined club president Roy Mlakar and his wife, Tamera, to celebrate some of the top individual Roger's House fundraisers.
This year's President's Party featured a performance by Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo. Cuddy was joined by Anne Lindsay, one of the most engaging and versatile violin/fiddle instrumentalists in Canada.
Cuddy presented Mlakar with two donations for Roger's House - $26,465 on behalf of Blue Rodeo Productions, who made a commitment to raise funds and awareness for pediatric palliative care during their tour January-March 2008, and then another $10,000 donated by Cuddy personally.
Scotiabank district vice-president Emily Farrell accepted an award from Danielle Robinson, president of the Sens Foundation, and Mlakar for her dedication in raising funds for Roger's House. More than $80,000 has been raised by employees and customers of the Scotiabank Group.
Senators centre Mike Fisher, who serves as honorary chair for Roger's House, presented Mlakar with his donation of $30,000, raised at his 2008 summer hockey camp.
"Generous contributions and fundraising efforts for Roger's House will help to keep the home operational and the spirit of Roger Neilson alive," said Mlakar. "Roger would be so proud and honoured to know we live in a community with so many generous and caring people."
