REMINDER: Beth Israel Medical Center Invites Informed Care Seekers and Primary Care Physicians to an Interactive Webcast Featuring Minimally Invasive Lung Cancer Surgery Options
June 15, 2009 at 7PM, From Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City
NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - June 17, 2009) - Lung cancer is the leading cause of all cancer related deaths in the United States with over 200,000 deaths occurring each year. When surgery is the recommended option as part of lung cancer treatment, the Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) is one of the surgical options. VATS is a minimally invasive surgical technique to diagnose and treat problems in the chest. Surgeons make small chest incisions to insert a tiny fiber-optic camera and other surgical instruments. This minimally invasive procedure results in less pain, faster discharge from the hospital and less trauma to the body.
In collaboration with the Continuum Cancer Centers of New York, Beth Israel Medical Center's team of thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists and medical and radiation oncologists, all work in one setting and at one time to treat lung cancer in the most minimally invasive way possible.
On Monday, June 15th, Dr. Angelo Reyes, Chief of The Division of Thoracic Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center, will host an interactive video webcast featuring a minimally invasive surgical option for lung cancer treatment called Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS). Dr. Reyes will also be interacting with the audience via Twitter during the broadcast. "A lung cancer diagnosis is frightening, and today there are several treatment options available; what patients need most is information to help them understand their options. We are excited to provide this channel of communication to patients seeking information about their treatment options," said Dr. Reyes.
Dr. Reyes will be Tweeting from the ORLive Twitter account. "Twitter makes the surgeon more accessible, making it easier for the audience to engage," said Robert Oakley, VP Marketing, ORLive. "By adding Twitter to the video broadcast we're making the user experience a richer one, and we're hoping to see a greater degree of engagement so that we can answer a broader range of questions."
The webcast's video page will present the tweeting below the video, while twitter users may also follow @ORLive on twitter to access the tweets directly.
