One Year and 120,000 Downloads Later: Kaltura Launches Version 2.0 of Its On-Prem Community Edition Open Source Video Platform

Includes Enterprise-Grade Tools for Monitoring and Administration, Enabling Large Media Companies, Universities and Enterprises to Design and Deploy Robust and Scalable Rich-Media Functionalities for Free

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwire - July 21, 2010) -   Kaltura, Inc. (http://www.kaltura.com), developer of the first open source online video platform, announced today at the OSCON 2010 Open Source Convention, that it has released version 2.0 of the Kaltura On-Prem Community Edition Video Platform -- the company's free, community-supported video platform. Community Edition version 2.0 is a full-featured video platform that is installed on-premise behind the publisher's firewall. It includes the full range of Kaltura's online-video tools and capabilities -- from ingestion, transcoding, management, metadata extraction, SEO, publishing, monetization and analytics, as well as Enterprise-grade tools for monitoring and administrating the system and tools for OEMs and service providers to support multiple sites and publisher accounts.

This release comes exactly one year after the initial release of Kaltura's Community Edition in July 2009. Since then, Comunity Edition and its supportive widgets, applications, and plug-ins have been downloaded more than 120,000 times by developers, publishers, universities and enterprises around the world. The new version incorporates a wide range of changes and enhancements based on feedback, and code contributions coming from the Kaltura developer community and its several thousand members. The new version of Kaltura Community Edition is available for free download here: http://www.kaltura.org/project/community_edition_video_platform.

"Kaltura is disrupting the online-video marketplace by solving the 'Build versus Buy' dilemma with the introduction of a third open-source alternative that is the best of both worlds," said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman & CEO. "The Community Edition and its components have been downloaded 30 times more than all the proprietary platforms combined over the course of the past year! The reason for this is that it not only eliminates platform costs, but it also provides unparalleled flexibility, ease of integration and control, ensuring freedom from vendor lock-in and an unmatched pace of innovation that is fueled by thousands of developers across the world."

Kaltura Community Edition version 2.0 is a cross-platform and device solution, supporting delivery to all video enabled mobile phones using all formats including Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and HTML5 video. The platform can be installed as an on-premise solution on both Windows and Linux environments. The platform is pre-integrated with all leading CMS and LMS platforms, including Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, Elgg, TikiWiki, Alfresco, Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle and more.

"Following the overwhelmingly positive response from the open source community to the initial version of the Kaltura Community Edition, we are extremely excited to now offer the second version with great enhancements and additional tools," said Dr. Shay David, Kaltura VP of Business and Community Development. "We invite the community to continue to download Community Edition and our other open source video widgets and applications, join the discussion in our forums, and contribute their own code to the ever-growing Kaltura framework."
