Public Consultation on Planned New Residential Complex for Place L'Acadie and Place Henri-Bourassa Site

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 12, 2009) - The Office de consultation publique de Montreal (OCPM) announces today that it will hold a consultation on a project allowing de demolition of residential buildings and the construction of a new residential complex on the site of Place L'Acadie and Place Henri-Bourassa, at the corner of the two boulevards by the same names, in the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

The project calls for the demolition of almost all buildings on the site in order to construct new buildings comprising a total of 1300 housing units. In recent years, Place L'Acadie and Place Henri-Bourassa have become known for their dilapidated buildings, leading to countless fines issued the City for insalubrity. The new owner of the site, the Groupe Tyron, plans to built housing on it, including social and affordable housing and 600 rental units for seniors. The buildings should range from three to 16 storeys in height. The project would require a variance to the borough's urban planning by-law, and has been entrusted to the Office for public consultation purposes.

A first information evening will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 7:00 p.m., in the basement of the Premiere eglise evangelique armenienne, at 11455 Drouart Street. In this session, the developer and City representatives will present the housing project, and citizens will be invited to ask any questions they may have.

Later, beginning on February 18, citizens and group representatives will be invited to submit their opinions, either verbally or in writing. These sessions devoted to hearing briefs will begin at 7:00 p.m., at the same location, in the basement of the church on Drouart Street.

All information pertaining to the consultation is available to the public at the OCPM offices, the Direction du Greffe de la Ville de Montreal, 275 Notre-Dame Street East, and the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough office, located at 555 Chabanel Street West, Suite 600. The documentation is also available on the Office Web site, at www.ocpm.qc.ca. For additional information, please call 514 872-8510.
