Naxos of America Welcomes the Gothic Catalog to Its Family of Distributed Labels

FRANKLIN, TN--(Marketwire - September 30, 2010) -  Naxos of America is proud to announce distribution of the Gothic Catalog (www.gothic-catalog.com) label group effective immediately.

Founded in 1999, the mission of Loft Recordings is to generate enthusiasm and literacy in classical music -- in particular, music for organs and choirs. In 2001, Loft purchased the assets of Gothic Records, a company that had been producing great organ and choral recordings for almost 25 years. Loft established "The Gothic Catalog" as a mail-order web store where recordings from both companies could be showcased, alongside other recordings from third party labels. In June 2008, Clarion Records was acquired, a record label that features semi-professional American choirs and a large catalog of world premiere choral recordings. Gothic Catalog group then became the exclusive publisher and distributor of recordings from the Washington National Cathedral (WNC) in 2009. In addition to Loft Recordings, Gothic Records, Clarion Records and WNC, the Gothic Catalog is also home to reZound, which focuses on reissues of classic recording, recitals and radio programs, and Quilisma, a label that features recordings of young artists from the UK with a special emphasis on choral music.

Distribution of the Gothic Catalog will be launched with the Gothic Records release Christmas at America's First Cathedral by the Emmy-winning and internationally acclaimed Baltimore Choral Arts Society. Recorded in the Baltimore Basilica, the album features six world premiere pieces by American composer Dr. Rosephanye Dunn Powell as well as "A Clean Heart," a new work by Baltimore composer James Lee III. Also featured on the recording are performances by soprano Janice Chandler-Eteme, a new work by American jazz icon Dave Brubeck, "Precious Gift His Wondrous Birth," and popular holiday favorites including "I Saw Three Ships" and the "Hallelujah Chorus." The CD is accompanied by a free bonus DVD of live concert footage.
