CHANTILLY, VA--(Marketwire - November 13, 2008) - TV Worldwide, a fast-growing web-based global
TV network, announced that it was selected again to webcast the National
League of Cities' (NLC) Congress of Cities and Exposition, live from
Orlando via NLC's Internet TV channel, National League of Cities TV
(NLC-TV, www.NLCTV.org), beginning at 8:45 am (ET) on Thursday, November
13, 2008. Main webcast sponsor IBM will have a corporate presentation
featured as part of the webcast. Other sponsors include National Crime
Prevention Council, CH2MHILL OMI, ICMA-RC, Millennium Risk Managers,
Utility Services Communications, Nationwide Insurance and GovPartner.
TV Worldwide is a partner with NLC in the development of NLC TV and will
webcast keynotes, addresses, and interviews surrounding the Congress of
Cities and Exposition in both live and archived formats.
"We are living in a visual society. If we want to be at the cutting edge,
we've got to use new technologies and NLC TV is exactly that," said Donald
J. Borut, NLC's Executive Director. "What we're doing here is making it
possible to provide information that is web-based, that is digital, and
that can be used by local elected officials and their citizens, to be able
to communicate what is happening in our cities."
"We are excited about again being selected to webcast this important event
for the fifth consecutive year," commented Dave Gardy, Chairman and CEO of
TVWorldwide.com. "We applaud NLC for working with us to deploy the latest
in streaming media and webcasting technology on NLC TV to foster
interactive communication among cities across the country. With all the
event activities, including the addresses from several mayors, we again
expect a huge audience and we are preparing our servers to accommodate the
webcast."
In the midst of the current economic outlook, municipal leaders will be
meeting to discuss innovative programs and solutions that serve the needs
of the nation's hometowns. The Congress of Cities and Exposition will
encourage city leaders to exchange best practices and new program ideas
that provide economic opportunities, make available more affordable
housing, ensure public safety, and allow more effective interaction with
state and federal agencies.
Local municipal leaders will be joined by author and Pulitzer Prize winning
journalist, Thomas Freidman, who is expected to address the economic
downturn, how to create sustainable communities in response to climate
change and high energy costs.
Participants will also hear a special panel session of mayors sharing their
successes in finding new approaches to improving the lives of families and
children and helping their cities go "green." Moderating the mayors' panel
will be the host of National Public Radio's "All Things Considered,"
Michele Norris.
Panelists include:
-- Mayor John Hickenlooper of Denver
-- Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. of Charleston
-- Mayor R.T. Rybak of Minneapolis
-- Mayor Ralph Becker of Salt Lake City
"Local leaders face the hard realities of our nation's economic downturn
everyday," said Donald J. Borut, NLC's executive director. "Especially in
difficult times, city leaders must deliver services responding to the needs
of families, maintain the nation's infrastructure, and bolster economic
opportunities. The Congress of Cities is a unique opportunity for our
nation's local leaders to hear the creative solutions implemented by their
peers."
NLC's agenda for this year's congress includes more than 30 workshops on
cities' most pressing issues, including strengthening sustainable home
ownership, capital budgeting and planning, and wastewater treatment.
Congress of Cities attendees will also participate in mobile workshops,
which allow attendees to see the work Orlando has performed in neighborhood
revitalization, housing, and the arts. The Congress of Cities is also
sponsoring an opportunity to help
low-income children in Orlando by working with KaBOOM!, Kool-Aid and the
City of Orlando in rebuilding a playground in only one day.
The webcast will be available live where local event connectivity is
available and fully archived for later viewing at www.NLCTV.org and
www.tvworldwide.com. Participants should have the free Windows Media Player
installed prior to the event and should test their set up before the
webcast. Questions can be directed to 703-961-9250, ext 229 before and
during the event.
