National High School Science Students Honored by The Pete Conrad Spirit of Innovation Awards
MOFFETT FIELD, CA--(Marketwire - April 7, 2009) - The Conrad Foundation, in partnership with NASA Ames Research Center, today announced the winners of The Pete Conrad Spirit of Innovation Awards, a competition for high school students to design new products to facilitate commercial success in personal spaceflight, lunar exploration or renewable energy. The winning teams in each category were:
Personal Spaceflight:
1st -- Final Frontier Apparel -- Milken Community High School, Los Angeles, CA.
2nd -- Gadget -- Glenbrook North High School, Northbrook, Illinois
Lunar Exploration:
1st -- ALGAE -- Tekna Theos Incorporated, Orange Park, Florida
2nd -- We Miss Pluto -- New Horizons Governor's School, Hampton, Virginia
3rd -- MAST -- Community High School, Los Angeles, CA.
Renewable Energy:
1st -- Harwell Arsturas Labs -- Cinco Ranch High School, Katy, Texas
2nd -- BioH -- North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, Durham, North Carolina
3rd -- DCs Army -- The Haverford School, Haverford, Pennsylvania
The winners were chosen from twenty-one finalist teams that traveled to the annual Pete Conrad Spirit of Innovation Awards' Innovation Generation Summit, which took place April 2-4, 2009 at the NASA Ames Conference Center in Moffett Field, California.
