NVIDIA and CCP Games Showcase Graphics Technology Integration at EVE Online Fanfest Event

CCP's 'Carbon' Framework Platform Now Incorporates NVIDIA's PhysX, APEX Clothing and 3D Vision Technologies

REYKJAVIK, ICELAND--(Marketwire - March 28, 2011) - CCP, a leader in massively multiplayer online games, today announced it publicly unveiled the results of its technology partnership with NVIDIA at its annual EVE Online Fanfest event last week. Carbon, CCP's proprietary graphics engine used in the development of its award-winning MMO game EVE Online, now includes NVIDIA's advanced PhysX, APEX Clothing and 3D Vision technologies.

The Fanfest demonstration provided attendees with a 'sneak peek' into the high-end graphics available in the hotly anticipated EVE Online expansion, Incarna, slated to launch this summer. The NVIDIA partnership augments CCP's Carbon framework with technology enabling a host of game-enhancing features for Incarna such as physics-based cloth simulation, ray-traced rendering of EVE characters, and 3D stereoscopic rendering.

"NVIDIA strengthens CCP in our drive for visual excellence. The visuals are a key element in our commitment to provide players with the most complex, immersive virtual worlds and characters possible, a commitment we take very seriously," said Halldor Fannar, Chief Technology Officer of CCP. "The combination of NVIDIA's advanced graphics technology and our Carbon technology creates an incomparable experience for the EVE community and we are excited to bring it to life with the Incarna expansions."

CCP currently utilizes NVIDIA technology to enable its recently launched EVE Online Character Creator, now widely recognized as the most advanced avatar creation system in the MMO market. The NVIDIA partnership assists in delivering realistic hair and cloth simulation within the Character Creator, as well as high quality server-side rendering of the player using NVIDIA's Optix ray-tracing rendering technology.

NVIDIA and CCP are also partnering on the R&D front to implement NVIDIA's Infinity tesselation technology within the Carbon platform, which will enable extreme levels of detail and sophisticated visuals. This will be featured in future EVE expansions.

"As a clear innovation leader in the MMO space with a demanding and technically savvy player base, CCP is an ideal partner for NVIDIA," said Tony Tamasi, Senior Vice President of NVIDIA. "Because CCP utilizes an internally developed game engine, Carbon, we're able to achieve a level of integration and optimization that takes fullest advantage of our respective technologies. We look forward to seeing the results of our partnership in action in EVE later this year and anticipate even greater achievements with CCP in years to come."

CCP's annual Fanfest event took place March 24-26, 2011 in Reykjavik, Iceland. Videos from the event can be seen at fanfest.eveonline.com.
