MuleSoft Announces Upgrades to World's Most Widely-Deployed Open Source ESB

Mule 3.1 Brings Integration to the Cloud and Enables New Levels of Collaboration With DevOps Capabilities

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - January 11, 2011) - MuleSoft, the open source provider of web middleware built on leading open source projects Mule ESB and Apache Tomcat, today announced general availability of Mule ESB 3.1, a major release of the world's most widely deployed open source enterprise service bus. This latest version of Mule includes Mule Cloud Connect, a set of capabilities that enables developers to integrate enterprise data and applications seamlessly with next generation SaaS, social media and cloud-based web applications. In addition, Mule 3.1 features powerful orchestration capabilities and a significantly upgraded Mule ESB Management Console, introducing a host of new collaborative capabilities inspired by the increasingly widespread DevOps movement.

"The way that applications are being built, deployed and managed is changing dramatically, with an accelerating trend toward SaaS and the cloud, which in turn is demanding a new level of operational agility that has spawned the DevOps movement in IT organizations," said Mateo Almenta Reca, Senior Product Manager for Mule ESB. "We have seen a tremendous response to Mule Cloud Connect among our user community, and in this release we focused on making it even simpler to bring SOA to the cloud. In addition, we have introduced a raft of collaborative deployment and monitoring capabilities in Mule ESB Management Console that enable the new models of agile and collaborative management that DevOps stands for."

Mule ESB is a lightweight, powerful open source enterprise service bus (ESB) and integration platform that allows developers to quickly and easily connect enterprise applications and cloud services using SOA principles. With over 1.5 million downloads and a user community of over 2,500 enterprises, Mule is the world's most widely-used open source ESB.

Earlier this fall, MuleSoft announced Mule 3, a major advance of the open source Mule project that introduced Mule Cloud Connect, dramatically simplified configuration, and a new deployment model which speeds and simplifies the development and deployment of new applications. Mule 3.1 builds on all of these features and adds a host of enterprise capabilities, including the Mule ESB Management Console, the first and only truly enterprise-class console for managing open source ESB infrastructure. New capabilities in this release include:

Mule Cloud Connect -- enables developers to integrate enterprise data and applications seamlessly with SaaS, social media and cloud-based web applications. Enhancements in this version make it even simpler both to build and use cloud connectors with Mule. A new Mule Cloud Connect Development Toolkit enables developers to create new cloud connectors without any knowledge of the underlying integration platform.

Service Orchestration across the enterprise and cloud -- the rise in use of SaaS and cloud-based applications creates new needs for orchestrating these services in a scalable way. Mule 3.1 includes a powerful capability called Flow, which enables the orchestration of services seamlessly across the enterprise and the cloud.

DevOps capabilities in Mule ESB Management Console -- Mule ESB Management Console now includes new capabilities inspired by the DevOps movement, including collaborative deployment, fine-grained access controls, and customizable dashboards. These features allow cross-functional IT teams (e.g., developers, QA, operations) to leverage the same web-based console to deploy, monitor and manage Mule applications, enabling more agile deployment processes and reducing the risk of change.

"As the leading provider of technology solutions for the insurance industry, we require infrastructure technology that is proven in mission-critical applications, yet helps us maintain a competitive edge from a performance and flexibility perspective," said Chris Phillips, Chief Architect for Insurance Solutions at StoneRiver. "After a thorough evaluation process, we selected Mule 3.1 to underpin our Insurance Integration Platform (IIP). Mule 3's simplicity, including the new Flow capability, allows our developers to quickly and easily integrate IIP with external services and other StoneRiver modules. At the same time, Mule's powerful runtime engine can easily handle our myriad of complex use cases across our insurance product lines."
