Micron Foundation Joins Equal Footing Foundation Board and Donates $3,000 for Youth Development and Education Programs
Micron Technology Virginia to Host Tour of Its State-of-the-Art Semiconductor Facility for EFF Computer Clubhouse Members
HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire - May 8, 2008) - The Equal Footing Foundation (EFF), the
charitable arm of the Northern Virginia Technology Council with programs
for youth development and education for underserved youth in the region,
announced today that the Micron Technology Foundation donated $3,000 to
support its efforts in providing a safe after-school educational
environment through the Computer Clubhouse program. The program provides
more than 1,500 Fairfax County students, ages 8 to 18, a deeper
understanding of the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
fields. In addition, Amy Harris, manager of university and academic
relations for the Micron Technology Foundation, has joined the EFF's board
of directors.
"The Micron Foundation strives to strengthen science, technology,
engineering and math education for students in Northern Virginia," said
Harris. "By supporting the EFF and partnering with the Northern Virginia
Technology Foundation, Micron has the opportunity to further aid STEM
initiatives like the Computer Clubhouse program."
Micron has long been a major partner with area school systems, teaching
hands-on lessons that align with Virginia's Standards of Learning exams.
During the last academic year, Micron's Virginia site team members worked
with more than 8,000 area students to generate excitement for science,
technology, engineering and math, and prepare students for STEM-related
careers.
On top of the charitable donation and leadership role, Micron Technology
Virginia will provide a tour of its Manassas semiconductor facility for EFF
Computer Clubhouse members.
"Micron has shown great commitment to the development of the youth in our
community," said Colleen Hahn, EFF's president and executive director. "We
are proud to welcome Micron to the EFF and look forward to a long and
prosperous relationship in providing vital educational opportunities to our
future workforce."
About Equal Footing Foundation
Equal Footing Foundation is a
Virginia-based 501(C)(3) nonprofit focused on youth development and
education. The Foundation's goal is to provide an equal opportunity
environment where youth can access the tools needed to successfully compete
with a skilled and educated workforce. We accomplish this goal by funding,
launching and sustaining Computer Clubhouses in partnership with local
governments, businesses and other non-profit entities. The Computer
Clubhouses we support are centrally located within established community
centers, in close proximity to schools and bus routes for easy after school
access. The result is an innovative and safe
after-school learning center where children ages 8-18, many of whom do not
have access to technology at home, work with adult mentors to learn,
develop, and explore their potential. For more information, visit
