Maryland-Based Silver Nation Selected to Protect South Carolina Senior Citizens With SeniorChecked Technology
BETHESDA, MD--(Marketwire - December 10, 2008) - Bethesda, Maryland-based technology company,
Silver Nation, LLC announced it has been selected by South Carolina's
Senior Shield to support its effort to protect seniors from fraud.
President and CEO of Silver Nation, Mark Hansan joined Lt. Governor André
Bauer and Josefina Carbonell, Assistant Secretary for Aging, U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, on a state-wide media tour in
November to announce the launch of the program using Silver Nation's
SeniorChecked patent-pending technology.
"With SeniorChecked technology, seniors can find and verify businesses that
agree to treat them ethically, and have proven they are legitimate,
licensed, insured, crime-free and have no pattern of consumer or regulatory
complaints," said Lt. Governor Bauer. "We intend to close the South
Carolina borders to fraud and financial exploitation of our senior
citizens. The reality is there are no regulations in place to protect
seniors living independently, and you likely have no idea whether the
person renovating your home has a criminal history."
"Ensuring the financial independence and security of older people is a goal
that we all share," said Assistant Secretary Carbonell. "Clearly, our
efforts to keep seniors living in their own homes are undermined by
financial exploitation and consumer fraud. When seniors lose their life
savings, homes, and other property through the efforts of scam artists and
fraudulent business operations, not only is their ability to remain
independent threatened, but often their confidence and spirit. I applaud
South Carolina's efforts and believe you could be a model for other
states."
"We are thrilled to have been chosen by Senior Shield to support such a
visionary program for protecting seniors," said Mark Hansan. "Seniors and
their adult children will have a resource to select reputable, trustworthy
businesses which have submitted to a thorough evaluation."
Beginning in January, the Senior Shield directory of businesses will be
available to consumers free-of-charge by accessing the Senior Shield Web
site http://www.scseniorshield.com or the toll-free telephone support
center 1-877-723-3771.
These same services are marketed as SeniorChecked
(http://www.seniorchecked.com) to consumers in the Washington, DC metro
area. Silver Nation is currently in discussions with other agencies and
state governments. "This is an issue not restricted to South Carolina. This
is a far-reaching national crisis that can be addressed with SeniorChecked
technology," said Hansan.
"The SeniorChecked technology, services and team provide an outstanding
solution as an independent and unbiased third party review of companies and
employees who serve senior citizens," added Lt. Governor Bauer. "There are
almost 800,000 seniors and 1.3 million baby boomers in South Carolina who
will benefit from SeniorChecked's cutting edge technology solution for
Senior Shield."
Silver Nation, LLC licensed to Senior Shield its SeniorChecked technology
and performs services on behalf of Senior Shield including hosting the Web
site and search directory, managing the business applications and
verification process, managing the support center, developing employee
training programs and business marketing programs, and data reporting.
