RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 25, 2008) - Gerry Weinkauf wants the world to help him set the Lazy World Record - highest number of people to contribute the highest combined amount of money to one person for no other reason than to set a world record. He is doing it online and is inviting people around the world to be a part of it by contributing a minimum of $2 each by the end of the year.

"You don't have to be in shape, work hard or even get off your chair to be a part of this world record. Just click and contribute," Weinkauf says.

All contributions go directly into Weinkauf's PayPal account so that he can achieve the world record. However, the net proceeds will go to charity. Due to the global nature of World Record attempt, Weinkauf selected a global charity. World Vision is on board as the charity of record.

The Lazy World Record idea came to the 37-year-old mortgage broker when he declined to help a friend to move because of a sore back. His friend called him the laziest person in the world and Weinkauf, who admits he's not the world's most energetic person, wondered if he could use his laziness to do some good. The Lazy World Record concept was born. Weinkauf set up a website - www.lazyworldrecord.com - and began his quest.

"I presume there are other lazy people out there and I decided to see if they want to get involved in setting a world record while doing some good," he says.

Visitors to LazyWorldRecord.com can watch the Lazy World Record video, view the ticker tape that shows the official number of participants and the official amount contributed, and contribute to the Lazy World Record. Those who contribute a minimum of $2 by credit card or by PayPal receive a user ID and password that lets them login to see who else has contributed and where contributions rank by amount, city and country. Once the world record has been set, contributors will be able to print an official certificate of participation.

Weinkauf may consider himself to be a lazy person but he works full time as a mortgage broker, owns a small green clothing line (StatikMountain.com) and donates money to several charities every year.

Lazy World Record runs until December 31, 2008.
