Haven Responds to Travel Uncertainty and Continuing Economic Worries With GBP 179 Family Easter Break Offers

HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, HERTFORDSHIRE--(Marketwire - March 20, 2010) - Haven Holidays, the largest UK holiday operator, has responded to the continuing economic uncertainty and concerns about airline industrial action by coming up with some offers to make it possible for families to have a UK break during the Easter holidays for less than £200.

Last year's "staycation" trend, where people took holidays in the United Kingdom, is likely to continue this Easter, the time of year when many families take advantage of the school holidays to go for a short holiday. Threatened industrial action at British Airways, combined with continuing economic uncertainty, means that many families are considering taking their Easter break within the UK. Large numbers of families will also want to take a break over Easter after being stuck at home during Britain's Arctic winter.

Over the year to January 2010 the number of holiday trips abroad by UK residents dropped by fifteen percent on the previous year, according to the latest report from the Office of National Statistics. The report also shows that Britons were still not taking foreign holidays in anything like the numbers they were a year earlier, even in the most recent three-month period to January. Concerns about continuing economic uncertainty and the value of the pound abroad are likely to be behind this pattern.

Haven Holidays, the largest UK holiday operator which has thirty-five holiday parks throughout the country, has responded to these trends by coming up with special offers for the Easter break, making it possible for a family to take a short break during the Easter holidays at one of its UK holiday parks from only £179. Haven, part of Bourne Leisure Ltd, is part-way through a £40 million programme of investment in improved facilities at the UK parks. This has already produced new and improved Adventure golf courses, tennis and sports courts, and children's play areas on several parks. There are new Space Bowl flumes at Combe Haven and Merton Mere, making the pool experience a lot more exciting for children and families wanting to burn off energy. For those wanting to relax, there are also now fourteen Mash and Barrel Lounge-Bar-Cafés in Haven's parks. Accommodation is also being upgraded, with more new model caravan holiday homes being added. This is all in addition to the wide range of sports activities, entertainment and kids' clubs that have long been part of the Haven holiday experience.

A spokesperson for Haven said, "We are delighted to be able to offer families fantastic value for money at our parks over Easter – there are not many places where a whole family can take a break for under £200."
