GardaWorld Awarded First "Peace Prize" from the Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East for its Work in Iraq
First Security Company in the World to be Awarded International Peace Prize
MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA--(CCNMatthews - May 14, 2007) - GardaWorld, the Global Risk Group of Garda World Security Corporation (TSX:GW), one of the most trusted consulting, investigation and security firms in the world, is the recipient of The Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East (FRRME) 2007 Prize for Peace in the Middle East, the company announced today.
The prize was awarded in recognition of the outstanding service provided by GardaWorld to Rev. Canon Andrew White and the FRRME in donating total security protection and life support to the Foundation as well as office facilities at GardaWorld's Baghdad Headquarters in the International Zone.
The GardaWorld award marks the first time that the prize has been presented since the formation of the Foundation in 2005. The prize, which can be given annually, is only awarded when a suitable candidate can be found.
Jerry Jones, Special Assistant to the Secretary of Defense presented the award on behalf of Rev. Canon Andrew White, President of FRRME, to Paul Wood, GardaWorld's Managing Director for International Security Operations. The presentation was held during a Pentagon ceremony on May 2nd. Additional award presentations will be made to GardaWorld representatives in London and Baghdad. The award certificate is signed by Lord Carey, former Archbishop of Canterbury and Chair of the FRRME Board, as well as Jones and Rev. White.
"Without the immense contribution of GardaWorld, it would have been impossible to do our work," Rev. White stated. "GardaWorld has provided an outstanding service to every aspect of our work in Iraq and in reality is the biggest contributor to our efforts of peace-making. It is also important to note that GardaWorld is not just interested in the financial concerns of running a security company in one of the most dangerous places in the world, it is serious about contributing to religious reconciliation and achieving peace in Iraq."
"This peace prize is particularly gratifying as it acknowledges the profoundly different approach that GardaWorld brings to security services in high-risk areas of the world," said Wood, a former Officer in the British Parachute Regiment who managed security operations in Iraq for more than three years. "We endeavour to understand the cultural as well as political environment of the theatres where we are involved and engage as much as possible with the local populace who we work along side as we attempt to contribute towards establishing a safe and secure environment where peace and stability can flourish. The ceaseless reconciliation efforts of Rev. Canon White and his organization align perfectly with our philosophy and operational approach."
