"How to Write" a Social Media Press Release Template Now Available

In Honor of the 100th Birthday of the Press Release, New Worksheet Explains Social Media and the Process of Writing SMPRs

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 7, 2006 --Brian Solis, principal of FutureWorks PR, developed a "how to" template designed to walk PR and marketing professionals through the process of writing SMPRs.

On October 28, 1906, Ivy Lee created and issued the first press release for The Pennsylvania Railroad.

On October 30th, The New York Times printed it verbatim.

Social Media is forcing the evolution of traditional press releases for specific audiences.

SMPRs are not intended to replace press releases.

The template explains how SMPRs can encourage conversations and participation within target markets.

The "how to" is complementary to the original SMPR Template designed by Todd Defren.

Brian Solis is part of the Social Media Club, which was founded by Chris Heuer, and its Working Group dedicated to proposing a standard format for Social Media Releases.

Members include Todd Defren and Tom Foremski.

Chris Heuer presented the official SMR format at the recent Society for New Communications Research event in Boston.

Chris Heuer, Shel Holtz, Tom Foremski, and Brian Solis host The NMR podcast which chronicles the development of SMPRs.

"Tom Foremski's call for the death of press releases, Todd Defren's creation of the original SM Template, and Chris Heuer's vision for the Social Media Club and the standardization of Social Media Releases, have triggered unbelievable momentum for the integration of SM into PR," said Solis. "Early adopters were quick to run with it and already have several success stories to showcase. This template is created for everyone else who has yet to learn about the fundamentals of social media. SM is not only for the elite, it's for everyone that cares about engaging with markets and customers."
