Federal By-Elections in Guelph (Ontario), Saint-Lambert (Quebec), Westmount-Ville-Marie (Quebec) and Don Valley West (Ontario) Have Been Cancelled

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 7, 2008) -

- The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Marc Mayrand, announced today that the writs of by-election in Guelph (Ontario), Saint-Lambert (Quebec), Westmount-Ville-Marie (Quebec) and Don Valley West (Ontario) have been withdrawn in accordance with subsection 31(3) of the Parliament of Canada Act.

- A notice has been published in the Canada Gazette announcing the withdrawal of the writs and the cancellation of the federal by-elections, section 551 of the Canada Elections Act.

Elections Canada is an independent body set up by Parliament.
