English Canadian Employees View Pay and Benefits as Key Factor in Loyalty to Employer: Monster.ca Poll

French Canadians are Loyal for Challenging/Interesting Work

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - June 8, 2010) - Advancement opportunities, recognition and having a good boss are important to all Canadian employees but good pay and benefits top the list when it comes to determining their loyalty to an employer in English Canada, according to the latest Monster.ca online poll. In French Canada, employee loyalty seems to stem from challenging/interesting work.

The new online poll, involving 8,277 participants, asked Monster.ca visitors the following question: "Which factor would make you most loyal to an employer?"

A total of 31 per cent of poll English respondents chose "good pay and benefits" as the leading factor in determining loyalty to their employer. Just 27 per cent of French respondents were in agreement.

A total of 32 per cent of French respondents chose "interesting/challenging work" as the leading factor in determining loyalty, something only 15 per cent English Canadians chose.

Another one in four (25 per cent) English Canadians went with "great boss and coworkers" as the key factor is staying on the job with an employer. Only 18 per cent of French Canadians cited "great boss and coworkers" as key to their continued loyalty.

English Canadian poll participants were evenly divided at about 15 per cent on each of the following factors in determining employee loyalty: "opportunities for advancement," and "getting recognized" for the work they do versus 9 and 14 per cent, respectively for French respondents.

"Employers with national companies should take note: there are always a variety of factors in determining employee loyalty and, as we've found with this Monster Meter Poll, they can vary widely by region" said Monster Canada senior vice-president of international sales and general manager Peter Gilfillan. "When looking to develop employee retention programs, it's important to consider that one-size may not fit all."
