Defi Corporatif Canderel: 16 Years-A Renewed Hope for
Cancer Research! Join Us as We 'Run Cancer Out of Town'
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - May 5, 2005) - The 16th annual Defi
Corporatif Canderel "fun run" will take place this Friday, May 6, 2005.
Hundreds of costumed runners from corporate Montreal will gather at the
corner of Bleury and Rene Levesque at 11:00 a.m. Judging for the best
costumes will take place and then the runners will take to the streets
at 12:30 for the 4 kilometre fun run through the heart of downtown
Montreal for the benefit of cancer research at our local universities.
Again this year, Nightshift Orchestra will provide the musical backdrop.
Defi spokesperson Sylvain Girard of the Montreal Alouettes and Mayor
Gerald Tremblay will be on hand to help send the runners on their way.
The Defi Corporatif Canderel is one of the most significant fundraising
events in Montreal. Over the last 15 years, the Defi has raised close
to $4.5 million for the university cancer research centres at McGill and
the Universite de Montreal. This year's campaign will be adding over
$300,000 to this amount.
According to statistics, one out of every 4 Canadians is affected by
cancer in one way or another during their lifetime. Furthermore,
because of budget cuts by the government in the health industry, the
need for additional funds for our university cancer centres is
increasing.
We hope to see you there!
