Commercial Open Source Leader Zack Urlocker Joins Pentaho Board
Urlocker to Lend Open Source Expertise to Help Pentaho Grow Its BI Leadership
ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - July 31, 2008) - Pentaho, the commercial open source alternative
for business intelligence
(BI), today announced that Zack
Urlocker, vice president of products in Sun's database group and previous
EVP of products for MySQL AB, has joined Pentaho's Board of Directors. He
will apply his proven success in a wide range of areas spanning products,
marketing, sales, and partners.
Zack joined Sun earlier this year as part of Sun's acquisition of MySQL AB,
where he helped develop the MySQL database into one of the most widely
adopted and commercially successful open source offerings in history. As
vice president of products for Sun's database group, Zack oversees MySQL
global product development and marketing. Zack is a veteran technology
executive, with twenty years' enterprise software experience. Prior to
joining MySQL AB, Zack held executive marketing and product management
positions at Active Software, webMethods and Borland International. He is a
frequent speaker on using open source technology as a competitive weapon.
He holds a graduate degree in Computer Science from the University of
Waterloo, Canada.
The most recent addition to the Pentaho Board of Directors, Zack joins a
team with deep experience and success in developing leading commercial open
source companies across a broad spectrum of major markets. Larry Augustin,
founder of VA Linux, and one of the people credited with creating the term
"open source," joined Pentaho's Board of Directors in 2005. The Pentaho
Board also includes representatives from Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures,
and New Enterprise Associates, who together have invested in and helped
establish leading open source companies like JBoss, MySQL, Red Hat,
Sourcefire, SugarCRM, Trolltech, Xensource, Zend, Zimbra, among others.
"I'm excited to be working with the Pentaho management team," said Zack
Urlocker. "They have tremendous bench strength in business intelligence and there's a
significant opportunity to positively disrupt the BI market by using open
source."
"Zack is a proven leader who has earned tremendous respect in the
commercial open source market," said Richard Daley, CEO of Pentaho. "His
experience will be an asset in working with our development community,
delivering unmatched value to our customers and partners, and growing our
leadership position in open source
business intelligence."
