2006 Titleist & FootJoy Canadian PGA Assistants' Championship

Presented by Simmlands Insurance

Set to begin next week At Predator Ridge

ACTON, ONARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 21, 2006) - Having won more than half the tournaments he's entered this summer, defending champion Bryn Parry heads a field of 108 players in the 2006 Titleist & FootJoy Canadian PGA Assistants' Championship set for September 26-28 at Predator Ridge in Vernon, B.C., in the Okanagan Valley.

One of many contenders from British Columbia, Parry of Seymour Creek Golf Centre in North Vancouver has won 16 of 27 B.C. PGA events this summer. Phil Jonas of McCleery Golf Course in Vancouver and the 2004 champion has won four times this summer. He's second to Parry on the Vancouver Professional Golf Tour (VGPT) order of merit.

"I am very excited to be defending my CPGA Assistants' title in my home province," Parry said. "Predator Ridge is an outstanding golf course and it will be a good test for everyone next week. I'm hoping some of the confidence I've gained this year will translate into another victory in this event."

The tournament will feature the top Canadian PGA Assistant Professionals from across the country, including past champions such as Edd Boudreau of Arbutus Ridge Golf & Country Club in Cobble Hill, B.C.; Mac McLeod of Turner Valley Golf & Country Club in Calgary, Alta;, Gregg Foley of the Kevin Haime Golf Centre in Kanata, Ont.; and Serge Thivierge of Vallee Du Richelieu Club De Golf in Ste-Julie, Que.

The three previous winners are all from British Columbia and they are all playing well heading into next week's event. Boudreau, the 2003 Champion won the B.C. PGA Championship at Royal Colwood Golf Club this summer and he finished tied for 16th at The Times Colonist Open, a Canadian Tour event.

McLeod, the 2002 champion, and Mike Belbin, the 2005 runner- up in this event, are also having standout years. McLeod won the Alberta PGA Championship as well as the Alberta PGA Assistants' Championship, while Belbin has won six events on the Alberta PGA Assistants' Tour.

"Predator Ridge is an outstanding facility and it is a real treat for our Assistant Professionals to be competing there," said Warren Crosbie, President of the Canadian PGA. "With the level of talent in the field for next week's championship, there is sure to be some drama down the stretch."

The 54-hole stroke play championship will be contested on September 26-28 (Tuesday-Thursday) with a Pro Am and practice rounds set for Monday, September 25.

"We are very proud to be entering our eighth year as the title sponsor of the Canadian PGA Assistants' Championship," said Ted Manning, President of Acushnet Canada.

"This event continues to be an integral element of Acushnet's comprehensive support of the CPGA and all of its Members. Titleist and FootJoy applaud all of the Assistant Professionals who have successfully combined their devotion to helping golfers improve and enjoy the game while playing and competing at an elite level. We take great pride in supporting these future leaders," Manning said.

There will be a 36-hole cut to the lowest 70 and ties. The total purse is $45,000 with $7,900 awarded to the champion along with exemptions into the 2006 PGA of America Assistants' Championship, 2006 Australian PGA Assistants' Championship and the 2007 CPGA Championship.

The 36-hole $5,000 InterZone competition will also take place where teams of four players represent one of the nine Canadian PGA zones. The team score is made up of the best three out of four scores cumulated over two first two rounds. Last year's B.C. team of Parry and Jonas, Myles Johnson of Spallumcheen Golf & Country Club in Vernon and Blair Piercy of Arbutus Ridge Golf & Country Club in Cobble Hill won this event by seven shots over Alberta.
