Media Advisory: Georgetti to Attend G-20 Meetings in Pittsburgh, CLC President Among Those to Meet With President Obama
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 18, 2009) - Ken Georgetti, CLC President, will attend trade union meetings held in conjunction with the summit of G-20 leaders in Pittsburgh next week. Georgetti and other global union leaders will meet with a number of the G-20 political leaders, as well as with top officials from the OECD, WTO, IMF and the ILO.
Georgetti will be available to the media in Pittsburgh and will also make himself available for interviews originating in Canada.
The international labour leaders will press the G-20 leaders for further action to deal with the continuing international economic crisis. The OECD predicts that unemployment will continue to rise throughout the year 2010 and into 2011. Unemployment represents the biggest threat to economic recovery and labour leaders are calling on G-20 countries to take further economic stimulus measures, to focus on maintaining and creating jobs, and to provide social protection for unemployed workers and their families through Employment Insurance, pension protection and other programs.
